You’ll find the actual prices for a particular flight at booking. Star Alliance Upgrade Awards are available for one-cabin upgrades and are valid for one nonstop flight. Upgrades are not guaranteed and may not be available on all flights. United Premium Plus (discounted fare). If you upgrade from economy to PPlus, you will earn miles based on the pre-upgraded fare class. All paid PPlus fares (O, A and R) are fully upgradeable to business class (PN or PZ). PPlus has a higher priority on the upgrade list than non-PPlus fare holders. For the time being, the carrier publishes a chart for this award option, though unlike American Airlines, it isn’t especially straightforward. The price varies based on your region of travel, fare class and Premier elite status. Generally, I do not like to use miles to upgrade because it costs a lot of miles and money to upgrade from the cheapest economy class tickets. For example, if I buy the cheapest 1-way fare from the US to Europe, I would have to pay 20,000 United miles + $550 to upgrade my seat to business class! I realized that United no longer publishes an award chart, and the one I had on my “Complete List of Airline Award Charts” is outdated, so I decided to make one of my own (and update the list of charts as well).
